A closer inspection reveals sockets along the edge of the board that allow a direct connection with your PC, allowing DGT Electronic Chessboard is an input device that interfaces directly with the most popular chess software on the market today. Addtionally, the Bluetoth enabled version gives you the option of wirelessly connecting to a PC elsewhere in the room. Built in sensors detect the postion of the specially made wooden pieces, relaying moves to the PC. This allows you to have the best of both worlds, taking advantage of all computer chess has to offer while still experiencing the pleasure of using a luxurious chess set. In addition to using it to interface with chess software for play and analysis the DGT Electronic Chessboard can be used to play real time chess over the internet at popular sites such as ICC, PlayChess and US Chess Live. Against a live opponent it can store automatically store your games in internal memory which can be retreived in PGN format for later analysis.

 

The DGT Electronic Chessboard comes complete with a set of tournament sized chessmen in your choice of one of the five styles available, shown below. Kings are 3¾" tall. All sets are handcrafted Rosewood or ebony stained (depending on style) and come with two Queens.

The standard Walnut / Maple inlaid wooden board is 3/4" thick, just like a standard non-electronic wooden board, and the squares are the FIDE tournament standard 2¼" size. Alternatively it is available in Rosewood or Wenge for an extra cost. In addition to the USB socket, the board also allows the direct connection of a compatible electronic chess clock which is available separately.
